Managing Your Windows In Offices and Schools
It has long been known that rooms without windows can be as harmful to people’s health as those with large glass panels allowing in too much heat and light. Dark rooms with no light can make people feel sluggish, impact on their mental performance and is associated with lower output in employees and students. In fact, research has proven how important it is to have windows in the workplace. A study looked at 49 day-shift workers – 27 were in windowless workplaces and 22 in offices with windows. But what were the results?
Safety With Windows
The study carried out with the Northwestern University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign found that there were significant differences between the performance of the group with windows and without. It was found that cognitive performance was increased in the group with windows in their office, the participants were more active during the day and overall had less of an appetite. The biggest impact was actually improved sleep — the participants in the group with windows had an average of an additional 46 minutes of sleep per night. This, of course, reinforces the case for having windows in the workplace and schools, but naturally this must be safe, and that is where HDClear can help. With a number of windows in a room, allowing unfiltered natural light would result in the room overheating and damage to sensitive skin from harmful UV rays as well as ruining furnishings and interiors. Using HDClear custom printed window films will allow you to preserve the benefits of natural light entering the room. Tailoring the windows with film prevents 98% UV light penetration as well as allowing for subtle designs to provide privacy or branding, giving you the best of both worlds!
